KFC, Colonnades – Daikin Heat Recovery VRV & Coldroom Install

We were asked to provide a full cooling and heating package installation for this new build KFC in the Colonnades Leisure Park, Croydon. This project included air conditioning for the kitchen and lobby areas as well as a walk in freezer room and two walk in coldrooms for food storage. In addition to this, we were asked to provide air conditioning for the offices above.

Works Undertaken: Provide a full cooling and heating package installation for the restaurant and kitchen areas plus air conditioning for the offices above.

Air Conditioning

For this project, we were limited to the amount of outdoor condensing units we were allowed to install. To resolve this issue, we opted for a Daikin VRV IV+ heat recovery unit. This enabled the customer to only have one condensing unit outside for their air conditioning but would allow them to run the units in heating or cooling mode in different areas of the restaurant and offices, simultaneously, by using a BS box.

In the lobby area we installed 3 Daikin roundflow cassette units and in the kitchen we installed 2 Daikin ducted fan coil units. Units in the lobby area where professionally sprayed by us so they would match the sprayed ceilings.

For the office space above the restaurant, we installed a Daikin fan coil unit with an additional Daikin Easyzone plenum box. The Easyzone plenum box comes with 8 separate controllable air dampers and bolts onto the front of the fan coil unit. This enabled us to cool up to 8 different areas all from the one fan coil unit. Controllers where installed into each office room and set up in different zones on the Easyzone system.

Refrigeration

We installed and supplied two walk in coldrooms and one walk in freezer. Coldroom panels where made by Williams refrigeration and installed onsite.

We used Danfoss Opytma Plus condensing units and Searle KEC evaporators for our refrigeration equipment. For refrigeration control, we used Carrel Mastercellar control panels.

All of the equipment we have used will enable the Walk in Freezer to run down to -21 degrees and the Walk in Coldrooms to run down to 1 degree.
